The beauty of whitework is the embroidery itself, the stitches. It doesn’t depend on color or metallic threads to attract. The purity of white against white, twisted, curved, raised creates its own appeal. Add drawn thread work and I’m hooked. I’ve done whitework with crewel and Hardanger projects. This would be the impetus to try Portuguese. Thank you for your inspiration. I share coffee with you every morning.

Coming Up on Needle ‘n Thread

Even if you didn’t win this week’s book give-away, never fear. In the spirit of spreading embroidery cheer all over the place, I’ll be giving away about 8 books over the next few months, on varying techniques. So keep an eye out for those. And who knows, you might see another copy of Portuguese Whitework on the menu!

I’ll show you the Medallion Finish on Monday – if I can hold off! The last stitches are going in today. Can I wait until Monday to actually show you? I’m not so sure. But once the stitching’s done, there are a couple more steps to prepare the piece for appliquéing it, and one in particular may be of interest to any needleworker, so I’ll try to photograph the process and share that with you, too.

With the Medallion finished, it’s time to move on! There’s some Stitch Play coming up, and I’ll be unfolding some new projects (not quite so elaborate), techniques, and other do-dads in the weeks to come. Stick with me – it’ll be a blast!
