Gosh, I meant to tell you this last week. But it’s not too late!
Are you familiar with the San Francisco School of Needlework & Design (SFSNAD)? If you live in the States, and you’re into the embroidery scene, I’m sure you have. If you haven’t, do take a look at their website to learn what they’re all about.
For many of us, embroidery can be a rather isolated pastime. We might not have access to local needlework resources or groups to join, where we can make friends and stitch with other people – where we can find inspiration, or bounce ideas off each other, or just have a good natter while we stitch!
Even if we don’t feel the need or want to be in a regularly meeting group, there’s a lot to be said for occasional interaction with folks who are excited about what we are excited about. It’s a great way to grow in creativity, to hone our skills, to awaken new ideas and extend our boundaries.
It used to be that needlework meet-ups were always in person, and so they required a certain proximity. But with the ever-increasing technological advances in online courses, meetings, and interaction – coupled with all the events of 2020 that pushed these technological advances even further – we now have greater access than ever to group meetings, interesting lectures, online classes and other events in the needlework world, right in our own homes.
SFSNAD jumped on the online outreach wagon quite early, with enticing series of online events for the needleworker, wherever you may be located.
They even offer free virtual stitch-ins on Wednesdays and Saturdays! If you’re feeling isolated in the stitchery world, what a great way to join in with others while you stitch!
Their lecture series features designers and teachers from around the world. You can find a current list of their upcoming planned lectures right here on their website, where you can register for each lecture that interests you. Many are free; some require a small payment.
Tomorrow, September 22, I’ll be joining the folks at SFSNAD for a chat at noon, CST. If you’re on the West Coast, that’s 2:00 pm. If you’re on the East Coast, that’s 11:00 am.
